LONDON – Chelsea mengamankan tiket ke semifinal Piala Dunia Antarklub 2025 setelah menumbangkan wakil Brasil, Palmeiras, dengan skor tipis 2-1. Laga yang berlangsung dramatis itu berlangsung, Jumat (4/7/2025), dan memperlihatkan magis dari Cole Palmer serta keberuntungan di menit akhir.
Anak asuh Enzo Maresca sempat kesulitan menembus pertahanan lawan. Namun, kualitas individu Palmer jadi pembeda. Namun Palmeiras tak tinggal diam. Tim asal Brasil itu menyamakan skor lewat wonderkid mereka, Estevao. Pemain muda berusia 18 tahun itu menunjukkan sekilas alasan mengapa Chelsea tertarik merekrutnya.
Lewat aksinya di sisi kanan, Estevao mengecoh bek lawan dan melepaskan tembakan dari sudut sempit yang gagal dibendung Robert Sanchez di menit ke-53.
Gol tersebut sempat membuat ritme Chelsea goyah. Palmeiras bahkan sempat mengancam lewat serangan balik cepat. Namun dewi fortuna berpihak pada tim London. Menit ke-82, sebuah umpan silang dari Malo Gusto mengenai bek Palmeiras dan berbelok arah masuk ke gawang sendiri. Gol bunuh diri itu membawa Chelsea unggul 2-1.
Di sisa laga, Chelsea tampil lebih tenang. Maresca mengatur lini tengah untuk mengontrol permainan. Palmeiras masih berusaha menekan, tapi tak mampu menciptakan peluang emas hingga peluit akhir berbunyi.
Kemenangan ini memastikan Chelsea melaju ke semifinal dan akan berhadapan dengan Fluminense, juara Copa Libertadores 2024. Duel tersebut diprediksi berlangsung sengit, tetapi performa Palmer dan kawan-kawan jadi modal positif bagi The Blues.
Enzo Maresca mengapresiasi mentalitas anak asuhnya. “Kami sempat kesulitan, tapi tim menunjukkan karakter. Palmer tampil luar biasa. Dan kami juga cukup beruntung malam ini,” ucap Maresca usai pertandingan.
