MONACO — Paul Pogba membuka lembaran baru dalam karier sepak bolanya. Gelandang asal Prancis itu resmi bergabung dengan AS Monaco, usai menjalani hukuman 18 bulan akibat kasus doping.
Pogba menandatangani kontrak berdurasi dua tahun, hingga 30 Juni 2027. Ini menjadi momen penting karena untuk pertama kalinya Pogba bermain di klub profesional Prancis setelah sebelumnya hanya tampil di level akademi bersama Le Havre.
Masalah bermula pada Februari 2024, saat Pogba dinyatakan positif menggunakan zat terlarang. Pengadilan Anti-Doping Nasional (TNA) Italia awalnya menjatuhkan hukuman empat tahun larangan bermain, sesuai standar dari WADA (World Anti-Doping Agency).
Namun, Pogba tak tinggal diam. Ia mengajukan banding ke Pengadilan Arbitrase Olahraga (CAS) di Lausanne. Hasilnya, pada Oktober 2024, hukuman itu dikurangi menjadi 18 bulan terhitung sejak 11 September 2023.
Setelah banding berhasil, Pogba resmi berpisah dengan Juventus pada November 2024. Pemutusan kontrak dilakukan secara damai. Sejak saat itu, Pogba berstatus tanpa klub.
Kini, AS Monaco menjadi pelabuhan barunya. Klub tersebut menyambut Pogba untuk memperkuat skuad yang musim lalu finis di peringkat ketiga Liga Prancis dan akan tampil di Liga Champions musim depan.
Sebelum bergabung dengan Monaco, Pogba hanya pernah membela dua klub profesional: Manchester United dan Juventus.
Bersama Juventus, ia menyabet empat gelar Liga Italia, dua Coppa Italia, dan satu Piala Super Italia. Di MU, ia mencatatkan gelar Liga Europa dan Piala Liga Inggris. Di level timnas, Pogba adalah bagian dari skuad Prancis yang juara Piala Dunia 2018.
Kini, pemain 32 tahun itu berpeluang menghidupkan kembali kariernya. Bermain di kampung halamannya, Pogba siap membuktikan bahwa dirinya belum habis.
